Name: Jerel Worthy NFL Draft
Ideal Position: 3-4 NT
Measurements: 6-3 305 lbs.
School: Michigan State
-Worthy came into the preseason as the highest rated defensive tackle by ESPN, and has underwhelmed scouts with his lack of effort and consistency. However the talent is still there, and with the right coaching he could be a steal in round two.
-At first glance he carries his weight well and has a nasty demeanor that scouts like to see in a defensive lineman.
-Elite first step for any DL, including DEs. Seems to adapt to snap changes well, and he also does a good job of anticipating the snap count while not jumping offsides.
-Plays big and light, which means that he can be quick on passing downs and a space eater on run downs. This will really appeal to teams that like to switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3 like the Saints and Pats.
-Surprisingly good hands for a DT, will stack and shed on interior run downs if teams decide to one-on-one block him.
-Occasionally gets too excited when he is closing for the sack and will lose form, however he is still getting significant pressure on the QB so It is hard to call this a major flaw.
-When going for swim/spin moves vs double teams, he will occasionally get his shoulders turned and stop his movement. Not a great quality.
-At the end of the day, anyone who has motivation/consistency/drive issues in college will generally have them at the next level. He is one of the biggest boom or bust prospects of this draft and any team that drafts him will need full confidence that their defensive coaching staff can get him to work hard. Late 1st – early 2nd round pick purely on talent. Possible destinations: Indianapolis, Minnesota, Denver, Pittsburg, New England, New Orleans
