Billy Winn NFL Draft | Defensive Lineman Boise St.

Name: Billy Winn
Position: 3-tech Defensive Tackle/ 5-tech Defensive End
Measurements: 6 foot 3 inches. 295 lbs
School: Boise State

-Good size for a DT/DE, he is a lean 295 and shows it with his speed. Tall enough to get into a quarterbacks passing lane. He has a big frame that bulk can be added on to if an NFL DC wants that option. When he gets going for more than two untouched steps from his 3-point stance, offensive lineman have serious trouble stopping him.

-All reports are that he is a well-liked guy with a lot of character. He has been called a defensive leader on the field. He looks very knowledgeable and aware of where he should be positioned on each play. Occasionally Boise State stands him up and lets him decide how to jump the snap. However, that seems like a misuse of his talents because when he stands up he gives up his leverage too easy and after the initial contact he is a minimal threat. Does not project well to be a 3-4 OLB.

-Shows an ability to make himself a small target, hard for blockers to keep hands on him when he dips his shoulder.

-From his natural 3 & 5 technique he plays with great leverage and pad level. He has very good arm extension and “pop” on initial contact.

- Great production with 14 career sacks, 23 TFLs and 127 tackles as a rotating defensive lineman he shows the ability to find the ball carrier and bring him down. Also it seems that he performs in big games. Last year against Va Tech, he was in on 5 tackles and this year against Georgia, he was in on 4. Also had 0.5 sacks in both of those games

-Injury problems are not an issue as he has played every game since his freshman year, and has only had one reported injury, which was a spring ankle injury that has not hurt his play.

-Earns double teams that keep his production numbers great but not spectacular, and head up against only one defender he has shown the ability to counter after his initial move has been stopped.

-Should be seriously considered by a team wanting a heavier front four in the 4-3, or a team that needs more pass rush from a 3-4 DE. His versatility makes him a top 5 DT and one of the top three 3-4 DEs. Probable destinations: Chiefs, Chargers, Jets, Packers, Broncos. Mid-Late 2nd round

About Will Lomas

Grew up in a town in Tennessee named Dyersburg, and played ball there. When I realized I was too small to play college ball, I found my passion in breaking down game film, analyzing athletes, and finding the little things that decides whether a player is good, bad, or great.
