Draft Grade A Day: Jacksonville Jaguars

With the 2011 regular season freshly over it is time to go back and evaluate every team’s draft classes based on performance this year.  I will use a formula to grade each pick and calculuate a final grade for each team.   Today we look at the Jaguars who were agressive and moved up to get the 10th overall pick.

GRADING SYSTEM
ROUND 1 – graded from a 0-5 scale
ROUND 2 – graded from a 0-4 scale
ROUND 3  – graded from a 0-3 scale
ROUND 4 – graded from a 0-2 scale
ROUND 5 – graded from a 0-1 scale
ROUND 6 & 7 – no scale, point awarded if player was productive
*I reserve the right to award a bonus point to any player who outperformed their draft position.*

FINAL GRADING SCALE

90-100 – A
80-89 -    B
70-79 -   C
60 – 69 -  D
0-59 -       F

2011 Draft Class

Round 1:  Blaine Gabbert QB, Mizzou - 2,214 Passing Yds, 12 TDs, 11 INTs, 98 Rush Yds.
Analysis:
Gabbert started 14 games and struggled mightily.  In his defense he had some very poor targets to throw to but he often looked lost and very hesitant.  He’ll have to improve greatly in year 2, if he wants to be this team’s answer at quarterback.
Grade: 2.5/5

Round 3: Will Rackley G, Lehigh - 14 games started.
Analysis:  Rackley started 14 games for the Jags and played well.  That’s excellent production from your third round pick.
Grade: 4/3

Round 4:  Cecil Shorts WR, Mt. Union - 2 Rec, 30 Yds, 1 TD
Analysis: Shorts didn’t do much as a receiver this year with only 2 catches.  He did a little more as a return man but the Jags had to be expecting a little more production out of their fourth round investment.
Grade: .25/2

Round 4: Chris Prosinski S, Wyoming – 16 Tackles
Analysis: Prosinski played in 13 games with 1 start but made little impact with the time he was given.
Grade: .5/2

Round 5: Rod Issac DB, Middle Tennesse St. – No stats
Analysis:  Appeared in 3 games, did next to nothing.
Grade: 0/1

TOTAL SCORE   7.25/13
FINAL GRADE: 56%  F

Analysis:   The Jags made a bold move to trade up and grab Gabbert.  After one year they have to be internally questioning that decision.  Gabbert still has hope though and with some better weapons and a new system could flourish.  Will Rackley looks to be the only sure thing fromt his class, as Shorts and Prosinski will also have to play better to justify their fourth round selections.

Other Grades:
Day 1: Carolina Panthers
Day 2: Denver Broncos
Day 3: Buffalo Bills
Day 4: Cincinnati Bengals
Day 5: Arizona Cardinals
Day 6: Atlanta Falcons
Day 7: San Francisco 49ers
Day 8: Tennessee Titans
Day 9: Dallas Cowboys
