Jonathan Martin NFL Draft | OT Stanford

Name: Jonathan Martin
Ideal Position: Offensive tackle
Measurements: 6-6 305 lbs.
School: Stanford

-Smart lineman who has worked in the Stanford system filled with audibles, dummy counts, and different protection schemes. Now most college teams do this, but Stanford ran their offense so close to an NFL offense that this may help him with the transition. It may not, but I think it is definitely a good attribute to have.

-Very good pop against an opponents initial rush. Can usually jar them enough to stop their momentum.

-Great in the run game, quick with good leverage and strength. He can really seal the edge and get to the next level.

-Footwork can get a little sloppy. He will stop his feet after the initial rush is over if he thinks he got a great pop. Also he will kick back before the rusher decides to rush outside which can leave him open to inside rushers.

-Does a good job on double teams waiting until his partner has full control of the defender before moving to the next level. Then he does a good job sealing the next level player.

-Does a very good job establishing inside leverage on plays designed to go through the B-gap.

-Good down blocker, drives through the defender and keeps his feet churning until the whistle blows.  Adds that element of “nastiness” to his game that teams like.

-An all around good lineman that stands out in run blocking. He has talent, size, and foot speed to play in the league for a long time and with some more polish he could see a pro bowl or two down the road. Top 20 talent. Possible destinations: Minnesota, St. Louis, Arizona, Kansas City, Miami, Buffalo, San Diego.

About Will Lomas

Grew up in a town in Tennessee named Dyersburg, and played ball there. When I realized I was too small to play college ball, I found my passion in breaking down game film, analyzing athletes, and finding the little things that decides whether a player is good, bad, or great.
