MarQueis Gray Interview | Gophers Quarterback

MarQueis Gray is one of the more exciting, athletic quarterbacks in the nation. Entering his Senior year at Minnesota, Gray has played a variety of positions on the offensive side of the ball. This should be our first full year to watch him exclusively at the quarterback position. Gray is one of the wild cards in the upcoming season and will be very interesting to see how he has progressed and how he stacks up against the rest of the top quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Matt Falk (DrafSeason): You are entering your final year at Minnesota, what is the most important thing you want to accomplish during your senior year?
MarQueis Gray: We want to finish strong and get to a bowl game and hopefully get a bowl win. I have not been to one since basically my freshman year and we have been having bad seasons since. But my goal before I leave is to help turn this thing around. It would mean everything to get to a bowl. Our team has been through so much the last few years going 3-9, having a coaching change and dealing with a death of one of our players. I feel like it would bring up all our spirits to go to a bowl game and hopefully turn this program around for next year.

Matt Falk (DrafSeason): What aspect of your game do you feel is most improved upon from last year?
MarQueis Gray: My passing. I have been doing a lot of passing and feel a lot more confident in my throwing ability. Hopefully that will show this season.

Matt Falk (DrafSeason): You have become one of the most dynamic dual position players in the nation. Where on the field do you feel you make the biggest impact?
MarQueis Gray: One of my biggest impacts I can make on the field is my ability to make plays. When protection breaks down or there is a busted play, I am able to run the ball or find someone downfield and keep the chains moving.

Matt Falk (DrafSeason): Greatest weakness as a quarterback?
MarQueis Gray: I tend to let mistakes stick in my head a little bit longer than they are supposed to. That is one thing I have worked on this offseason. If I make a mistake, I need to get it out of my head as soon as possible so it will not affect the rest of the game.

Matt Falk (DrafSeason): Which game on this years schedule are you most looking forward to?
MarQueis Gray: I always look forward to the Wisconsin game and it will be fun to go back to Wisconsin and battle for the axe. This year I am also really looking forward to going to Nebraska. I am looking forward to seeing the stadium and that sea of red. That is one place I have not been yet, but am looking forward to going to.

Matt Falk (DrafSeason): In your eyes, which youngster has a breakout year for the Gophers this year?
MarQueis Gray: We have so many talented players, so it is hard to just pick out one player. Marcus Jones is coming back from an ACL injury and he is looking tremendous. He is going to make plays for us. Freshman wide receiver Jamel Harbison and running back transfer James Gillum and the entire running back crew are looking good. On the defensive side of the ball, James Manuel moving up to linebacker will provide that speed and strength that you need. He is a good fit back there. Troy Stoudermire and a bunch of other guys are going to make plays for us this year.

Matt Falk (DrafSeason): Best part about being part of Gopher Nation?
MarQueis Gray: Just the tradition of the football team that has been carried on by players like Sandy Stephens and Bobby Bell and all the other alumni. Especially Bobby Bell. He comes back to games and he has little magic tricks that he does that always brighten up our days. Just to see alumni come down and let us know that they are behind us 100 percent is just what we need. Also having coach Kill as our coach.
