Lups 2012 NFL Mock Draft (Picks 23-32)

23.  Detroit Lions - Jonathan Martin OT, Stanford
The Lions miss out on a corner but don’t hesitate to add Moose Martin here.  They made the playoffs the first year Stafford stayed healthy.  They need to ensure that continues so beefing up the offensive line is high on the Lions draft wish list.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers – Dont’a Hightower LB, Alabama
Everyone else has him going here so I’m gonna follow the herd.

25. Denver Broncos - Michael Brockers DT, LSU
The Broncos biggest need is a run stopping defensive tackle.  Brockers has fallen a little since the beginning of the draftseason but he shows up on game day and would be a great value here with the 25th pick.

26. Houston Texans – Stephen Hill WR, Georgia Tech
The Texans need a competent wide receiver opposite Andre Johnson. Hill’s pants dropping performance at the Combine all but assured himself a spot in round 1, and his dynamic blend of size and speed will just turn this deadly offense into death itself.

27. New England Patriots (From New Orleans) – Nick Perry OLB, USC
The Patriots have to start getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks and will take the best pass rusher on the board here.  The Platypus is extremely explosive and quick off the ball and can play standing up or with one hand buried in the dirt.

28. Green Bay Packers – Whitney Mercilus OLB, Illinois
The Packers have to get someone opposite Clay Mathews.  Mercilis has an explosive burst and lead the Nation in sacks last season.  He should be able to provide ample pressure opposite the Claymaker.

29. Baltimore RavensPeter Konz C/G Wisconsin
The Ravens lost Ben Grubbs in free agency and have yet to fill that void.  Konz can step in for Grubbs for a couple years, then when Matt Birk retires he can move to center and enjoy years of Joe Flacco’s callused hands under his buttocks.

30. San Francisco 49ers - Rueben Randle WR, LSU
The 49ers added both Randy Moss and Mario Mannigham in the offseason but both were to short term deals.  That means wide receiver is very much in play here.  Randle was a little under utilized in the Bayou, but has good size and speed, and could be a long term starter for a team that has spent years looking for one.

31. New England Patriots - Jerel Worthy DT/DE, Michigan St.
The Patriots again go defense and grab a guy who can stay on the field whether they are playing in a 3-4 or a 4-3 front.

32. New York Giants - Doug Martin RB, Boise St.
The Champions let Brandon Jacobs walk in free agency and know Ahmad Bradshaw is to frail to be a feature back.  Martin is just a solid all around back who does it all well.  He can share the load with Bradshaw and can even return kicks if needed.

Discussion

  1. Joe :

The Lions will not draft Jenkins and his obvious issues. Find another spot for this piece of garbage.
