Plan of Attack for the 2012 NFL Draft: Washington Redskins

Free agency is waning down and the Draft is just days away.  It’s time to sit down and go over every teams free agent acquisitions and losses, along with their team needs.   Using that information  we will figure out a Plan of Attack for the 2012 Draft for each team.  We’ll start with the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants and work our way down one day at a time, to the Indianapolis Colts and the first overall pick.

Plan of Attack:  The Redskins originally held the 6th overall pick but gave the Rams a king’s ransom to move up to no.2 to get Robert Griffin III.  It was a hefty price to pay but it’ll be worth it.  Griffin gives the team a legitimate franchise QB and face of the organization.  Mike Shannahan loves mobile quaterbacks who can move the pocket and Griffin’s obscene amount of athleticism makes him an ideal fit.  He will excite the fanbase and could very well be in the running for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Redskins have some pretty glaring holes in their secondary and could look to add a corner or safety with their early third round pick.  They lost Chris Horton and LaRon Landry and are thin at safety.  They could look to replace the physicality they lost with Landry in Oklahoma St.’s Markelle Martin.  Martin is a physical player who will lay some big hits on receivers coming across the middle.   They also have issues on the interior of their offensive line and need to add a guard.  Lucky for them they should find value on the board when they go on the clock.  They would love to see either Illinois Jeff Allen or Miami Ohio’s Brandon Brooks fall to them.  Allen is a versatile lineman who could also play right and potentially left tackle.  Brooks is a big physical mauler who would open up wide lanes in the running game as well as allowing ample time for RGIII to make his reads.
