Plan of Attack:   The Seahawks hold the 12th overall pick and there are a plethora of ways they could use it.  The team lost MLB David Hawthorne in free agency and while they signed Barrett Ruud, he is better suited as a backup.  They could go with Boston College’s Luke Kuechly.  Kuechly is a very safe pick as he is athletic, quick, and is one of the better tacklers in the country.  He also has no medical or off field concerns.  The Seahawks could also look to trade back and acquire Dont’a Hightower who they are reportedly smitten with. The team could also use a pure pass rusher to pair with Chris Clemons and could take a long hard look at UNC’s Quinton Coples.  Nick Perry is another pass rusher they could consider and he was recruited by Pete Carroll to play at USC, so that is a connection that cannot be overlooked.  The team is also thin at guard and could solidify that position with Stanford’s David DeCastro, or they are also rumored to be interestend in QB Ryan Tannehill.

If the Seahawks grab a pass rusher with their first round pick they could grab a guard in round two.  They lost Robert Gallery in free agency and are thin and a little weak at the position even after adding Duce Lutui.  They would be very tempted by Wisconsin’s Kevin Zeitler or Iowa St.’s Kelechi Osemele.  If they feel they are okay at guard then they could go with a linebacker here and would look inside at players like Mychal Kendricks or Bobby Wagner.  Kendricks is very fast for an inside backer and could make plays all over the field for the Seahawks’ up and coming defense.  A wild card selection in round two for the Seahawks would be running back. Marshawn Lynch got a fat contract extension but he is nearing 30 years old.  If a back like Doug Martin, Lamar Miller, David Wilson or LaMichael James were available they’d have to think long and hard about taking one of them.

In round 3 the Seahawks could very well add some depth at safety.  They have arguably the best young duo at safety in the league in Kam Chancellor and Earl Thoams, but have little depth behind them.  They could look at a versatile corner like Virginia’s Chase Minnifield.  Minnifield is a long, lean corner with good speed and ball skills, and could also play some free safety.  They could just take the best safety available and target Oklahoma St.’s Markelle Martin, or Boise St.’s George Iloka.  If they haven’t landed a guard yet, they could see value available in Miami’s Brandon Washington, Wake Forest’s Joe Looney, or Troy’s James Brown.
