Plan of Attack for the 2012 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Free agency is waning down and we are approaching April at  a rapid pace.  It’s time to sit down and go over every teams free agent acquisitions and losses, along with their team needs.   Using that information  we will figure out a Plan of Attack for the 2012 Draft for each team.  We’ll start with the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants and work our way down one day at a time, to the Indianapolis Colts and the first overall pick.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Team Needs: WR, QB, OLB, DT, CB

Free Agent Acquisitions: DT Broderick Bunkley, OLB Chris Chamberlain, G Ben Grubbs, LB Curtis Lofton, WR Marques Colston (resigned)

Free Agent Losses: WR Robert Meachem, OG Carl Nicks, CB Tracy Porter

Round 3:
Potential Targets:
WR Juron Criner, WR Jairus Wright, WR AJ Jenkins, WR Joe “The Jet” Adams, WR Ryan Broyles, DT Billy Winn, QB Brock Osweiler, QB Nick Foles, OLB Sean Spence, CB Leonard Johnson, CB Josh Norman

Plan of Attack:  The bad news for the Saints is that the bounty scandal cost them their second round pick, and they don’t have a first due to the Ingram trade last draft.  The good news is that they’ve already addressed all their major needs in free agency.  So basically all the Saints are doing here is looking for some depth.  They could look at receiver after losing Meachem and could choose Arizona’s Juron Criner, or a speedier guy like The Jet Adams or Jarius Wright.  They are also a little thin at corner and there should be some decent options on the board, but they should also seriously consider adding a quarterback.  Drew Brees is unsigned after this year and apparentely frustrated with the organization and the backup is untested Chase Daniel.  There is a good chance that both Brock Osweiler from ASU and Arizona’s Nick Foles could be on the board here.  The Saints could look at adding either one and grooming them as insurance in case Brees bolts next year, or just grooming them as an upgrade at backup QB over Daniel.
