Free agency is waning down and the Draft is just days away. It’s time to sit down and go over every teams free agent acquisitions and losses, along with their team needs. Using that information we will figure out a Plan of Attack for the 2012 Draft for each team. Plan of Attack: The Dolphins hold the 8th pick in next Thursday’s Draft and all signs point to them using that selection on QB Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill is a very inexperienced QB starting only 16 games. He does wow scouts with his athleticism and overall ability, but is very raw. He will need to sit a year and learn an NFL system. He is really a good fit in Miami as Mike Sherman was Tannehill’s college coach, and is now the Phins offensive coordinator. If the Dolphins pull a surprise or another team jumps ahead of them for Tannehill then they could grab a pass rusher like Melvin Ingram or fix their need at RT with Riley Reiff.
In round 2 the Dolphins could go three ways: WR, OT, and DE. If Syracuse’s Chandler Jones falls to them that’d be an easy choice. He is prototpically sized and has great burst off the edge, he’d go much higher if his senior season wasn’t riddled with injuries. They could also look at a WR here and could be intersted in South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffrey. Jeffrey is a big receiver who uses his large frame to outmuscle defenders. He’d be a nice replacement for Brandon Marshall. The team could also get a right tackle in round 2 with Bobby Massie or Zebrie Sanders as targets.
The Dolphins now have two third round choices due to the Brandon Marshall trade and assuming they’ve landed a QB and then a WR, will look for a pass rusher first. Boise St’s Tyrone Crawford is someone the Dolphins could be interested in. He is 6’5 275 pounds, has a great motor and also is very good against the run. His stock is rising as the draft approaches. With their second third round choice the Dolphins could either look for a right tackle or take a pass catching TE. Orson Charles would sure be tempting in the third round. He is very quick and catches the ball naturally but does have some off field baggage. The team could also look for a right tackle and look for a versatile G/T type like Troy’s James Brown or Washington’s Senio Kelemete.
