2010 DraftSeason Rob Gronkowski Interview | Revisited
DraftSeason was fortunate enough to interview Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski in 2010. The Gronker ended up going in round 2 (42nd overall) and has become one of the best overall tight ends in the entire NFL. Below is a peak back in time to that lovely interview.
DraftSeason: Rob, first off how is the back and will you be able to fully participate in the upcoming NFL combine?
Rob Gronkowski: The back is doing great! I am feeling great and having no problems and training is coming along well! I am not sure as of right now on how much I will be participating at the combine, if at all.
DraftSeason: You left Arizona with 2 years of eligibility left, how hard of a decision was it to make the leap to the NFL and what was the biggest factor?
Rob Gronkowski: It was a hard decision leaving the Arizona program. Being at Arizona was like family and was a great three years being with them. The biggest factor decision was the fact I always dreamed of playing in the NFL and now that I am fully healthy I wanna fulfill my dream!
DraftSeason: Over only 2 seasons you put up some big numbers and proved to be one of the best tight ends in the nation, what do you feel you bring to the table that the other tight ends in this years class don’t?
Rob Gronkowski: I feel like I bring the whole package at the Tight End position. I can block and I am a great receiving threat down field. I will be always working on improving in both aspects to make me a better player.
DraftSeason: What is the one thing you feel you need to improve on the most before your upcoming workouts?
Rob Gronkowski: I dont really feel like i need to improve on anything the most. I just need to get prepared and get in shape to where i was before my surgery in which it is coming along great! I need to keep working hard and just improving on all my overall skills everyday.
DraftSeason: Which current NFL tight end would you say you most resemble?
Rob Gronkowski: I would either go with Jeremy Shockey or Tony Gonzalez. Both players are great Tight Ends in the NFL and love watching them both.
DraftSeason: During your career at Arizona which defender gave you the most trouble on the field?
Rob Gronkowski: During my career USC defense always had a great defense and great game plans. Overall USC had a terrific defense and the most talented when playing vs them.
DraftSeason: If you had the chance to choose, which NFL quarterback would you like to be catching passes from next fall?
Rob Gronkowski: If really doesn’t matter to me. What ever team I go to I will love catching passes from that QB. If I really had to choose it would be from one of the great ones in the Tom Bradys, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and much more.
DraftSeason: Using one word, describe the way you play the game of football.
Rob Gronkowski: Physical!
