Riskiest Picks of the 2012 NFL Draft

1. Bruce Irvin, LB | Selected 1st round, 15th overall
Irvin was offically the eye popper draft pick this year. Much earlier than anyone expected. Yes he has proven he can get to the quarterback, but isn’t an every down player. If he can mange to get 10 plus sacks a year he will be worth the pick.

2. Brandon Weeden, QB | Selected 1st round, 22nd overall
Was linked to the Browns all along, but wasn’t sure if they would actually pull the trigger. Will be 29 in no time and has a small window to produce. Should be week 1 starter as a rookie, but at pick 22, they passed on plenty of talent to take this guy.

3. Brock Osweiler, QB | Selected 2nd round, 57th overall
Some had Osweiler ranked as a 6th rounder. Deep down we all knew he would come off much earlier. Risky due to how high he went, but lets be honest, he is going into a great situation.

4. Ryan Tannehill QB | Selected 1st round, 8th overall
This is a love/hate pick. Either people really like it, or really hate it. I have mixed feelings, he is going to an ideal situation to succeed. That said, it was in fact a reach and other years would have been lucky to go in round 1.

5. Dontari Poe, DT | Selected 1st round, 11th overall
Boom or bust type pick. Has all of the tools to be successful but will it all come together? Didn’t really wow anyone during his time at Memphis.

6. LaMichael James RB | Selected 2nd round, 61st overall
Risky due to the fact they are already loaded at running back. Unless they can find time for James on the field it will continue to be a head scratching pick.

7. Janoris Jenkins CB | Selected 2nd round, 39th overall
The riskieness of this pick comes down to his off the field behavior. His on field skills warrant him as a top 15 pick. Hopefully Jenkins keeps his nose clean and becomes a dominant corner in the NFL.

8. Quinton Coples DE | Selected 1st round, 16th overall
Seems a bit risky to take Coples and plop him into a 3-4. The Jets had the pick of the litter at pass rushing specialists at 16 and opted to go for Coples.

9. Bryan Anger, P | Selected 3rd round, 70th overall
Really? A punter in round 3? For the Jaguars sake I hope this guy turns out to be a future pro-bowl punter. They must have had a serious man crush on Anger, punters just aren’t worthy of a 3rd round pick.

10. Brian Quick WR | Selected 2nd round, 33rd overall
Taken ahead of a handful of other worthy receivers. Quick is a raw talent who will need time to develop, but will always be compared to the guys who came after him in round 2.

How is RGIII NOT on this list? His the biggest risk in this draft…. last year they were discussing converting his position, now the Redskins are risking everything on him.
