2012 NFL Draft Small School Prospects

Top 5 Small School Prospects

Who doesn’t like the story of a small school underdog when it comes to draft day? Below are the top 5 small schoolers at various positions. This years crop has a few players that should hear their names in the first 3 rounds (Quick, Norman).

Note: Not including Janoris Jenkins in the lump of small schoolers due to his time at Florida.

1. Brian Quick WR, Appalachian St.
One of my favorites to be a sleeper in the 2012 Draft. Great size at 6’4, 222. Yes, he is still a bit raw but has the tools to become a solid number 2 on any NFL team.

2. Josh Norman CB, Coastal Carolina
One of the best small school defenders. Very good size and speed, has watched his name move up the charts quite a bit since January. Could very well be in the 2nd or 3rd tier of corners.

3. BJ Coleman QB, Chattanooga
Really help put himself on the map during the East/West Shring game. Has a very good arm and the intagibles to be a quality NFL backup that could push for a chance to start.

4. Ryan Steed CB, Furman
Many teams showed interest in Steed at the Senior Bowl. When given the chance at Furman handled top receiver (Brian Quick) well. Very good technique, speed might be only concern.

5. Rishaw Johnson G, Cal (PA)
Johnson is a beast at 6’4, 308. His body alone will get him drafted. Former Ole Miss transfer who has a few concerns off the field. His play on the field will get him serious looks in the mid rounds.

Other Notables: Tom Compton OT, South Dakota St., Asa Jackson CB, Cal Poly, Bo Levi Mitchell QB, Eastern Wash, Janzen Jackson S, McNeese St., Ronnie Cameron DT, Old Dominion, Joe Long OT, Wayne St., ALex Gottlieb TE, Willima & Mary
